June and Rob- Loughrea Hotel

June and Rob – September 2016

Loughrea Hotel and Spa

We all love a good love story, words and giggles by June and Rob, photos by me.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

Rob and I met at a 21st of a mutual friend in Portumna. We met when we were both quite young, Rob was 20 and I was 19. We didn’t meet again for 5/6 months but we’ve never looked back from there!

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

Rob proposed on a cliff overlooking Playa de Papagayo in Lanzarote. I really didn’t expect it but it was an amazing surprise!

WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY AND WHY THERE?

The wedding was in St. Patrick’s Church, Fohenagh. It’s where I go to mass when I’m at home so it was an easy choice.

WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION AND WHY THERE?

The reception was in the Lough Rea Hotel in Loughrea. We wanted a modern hotel between our two home places and once we met with Karen, the wedding coordinator, we knew it was the hotel for us.

WERE YOU GOING FOR A CERTAIN THEME OR STYLE WITH YOUR WEDDING?

We didn’t have a theme – we just wanted to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves, so made our decisions based on that.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DRESS AND ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE FOR OTHER BRIDES LOOKING FOR THEIR PERFECT GOWN?

My dress was one shoulder, off white, mermaid, royal satin dress by The White One for Pronovias. I actually got it by accident when I went to a wedding dress showcase in Dublin with one of my bridesmaids to pass a Sunday afternoon.  My advice to other brides is if you love the dress it will show in your face, don’t doubt your gut.

WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR WEDDING SHOES AND DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES LOOKING FOR THEIR BRIDAL SHOES?

My shoes were my “something borrowed” from a very good friend of mine whose 21st we met at, so it was a nice way to incorporate that into the day. Wear something comfortable and if you’re wearing a long dress don’t get too bogged down trying to find “the perfect” pair – comfort is key, you’re on your feet most of the day.

WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR JEWELLERY AND ACCESSORIES?

I got my jewellery in Debenhams. I wanted a few bits of bling as I wasn’t wearing a veil or there was no sparkle on my dress.

WHO DID YOUR HAIR AND WHAT LED YOU TO THE STYLE YOU CHOSE?

Luxx hair in Castleblakney was my hairdresser. I wanted my hair up in an elegant style to show off the earrings. My hair is quite heavy so I didn’t want it to fall flat when it came to the dancing part of the evening.  Make sure and consider your hair type when picking your style as it mightn’t hold the same style as the picture you have in your head.

WHO WAS YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST AND WHAT WERE YOUR INSTRUCTIONS WHEN BOOKING – WHAT WERE YOU AFTER?

Sara Duffy from Salthill in Galway was my makeup artist. I wanted a glamorous look which opened up my eyes with the rest just polished.

WHERE DID YOU FIND THE GUYS SUITS? WERE THEY PURCHASED OR HIRED AND WHY?

We got the suits in Bourkes in Ennis. Rob purchased his but we rented the others.  They had different styles, slim fit, normal etc. in the same colour which gave all the guys more options.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FLOWERS/BOUQUETS?

I got my flowers from Clare’s flowers in Ballinasloe. I wanted pink roses to contrast with the navy in the bridesmaids’ dresses.  From just a few photos of ideas Clare put together beautiful pieces that complimented the day perfectly.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE THE WEDDING CAKE YOU DID?

A friend recommended Grace Daniels from Ballinalsoe. She had hired Grace for her wedding. It was good advice, all the plates went back to the kitchen empty.

WHAT BAND DID YOU HAVE FOR THE EVENING, AND WHY?

We had The Conquerors. The only request my father had was to have a good band that catered to all age groups, so we went with one of the best!

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE PHOTOGRAPHY PART OF THE DAY

It was really easy. Paul was non-intrusive while capturing the moments that mattered so much to us. We both felt so comfortable with him around which added to the enjoyment of the day.

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PAUL DUANE PHOTOGRAPHY FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Neither Rob nor I are fond of standing for photos so we wanted a lot of natural shots. Looking at Pauls work online he had some beautiful natural photos. When we met Paul he was so nice, that was us sold.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THE DAY?

I remember laughing so much with Rob throughout the mass. Our priest kept making little jokes to us to make sure we were relaxed and enjoying the ceremony. It set us up for the day.

CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HONEYMOON?

We did a tour of Sri Lanka and then went on to the Maldives. Sri Lanka was such a varied country from bustling cities to green forests and some of the biggest beaches I’ve ever seen. The people and the food were amazing. The Maldives were our chance to relax and unwind before coming back to the real world. It was a paradise, cocktails by the pool, snorkelling with rays, white sand, no shoes and great food.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD SHARE WITH BRIDES TO BE?

If you can, send out your invites early with an RSVP date about a month to 6 weeks in advance. You’ll still get late replies but we only had to follow up with about 5 people.

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING AGAIN, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?

I probably would have walked a little slower up the aisle!

Sorcha and Adrian in the Salthill Hotel, Galway

Sorcha and Adrian

Salthill Hotel, Galway

November 2016

When you get to take part in an Arann Island wedding, you know its going to be a fun day, and Sorcha and Adrians’ wedding was just that. The clouds parted, the sun came out, although the temperature was pretty baltic but most importantly, the rain stayed away. Adrian and the boys enjoyed a morning of Football, scones and tea in the Galway Bay, while Sorcha and the girls over in the Salthill Hotel, went for the more traditional glasses of bubbly. With the girls’ hair and makeup perfected, courtesy of the fabulous duo of Caroline Coyne and Natalie O’Brien, and Sorchas bridesmaids helping her into her “gúna” it was time for the important part of the day.

I love the Claddagh church, there is something so special about it, and today it looked fantastic as always. The ceremony was held “as Gaeilge”  and the Ignite Gospel Choir providing its beautiful soundtrack. Rings exchanges and vows said, it was out the door into the winter sun as Husband and Wife. The party moved back to the Salthill hotel, with some trad music before dinner and speeches, “as Gaeilge” of course, before Pyramid took to the stage to get everyone dancing.

Congratulations Sorcha and Adrian, it was an honour to have been part of your day.

Bunratty Fun

Bunratty Castle Hotel, Co. Clare

Wedding days are great fun, they really are. You are surrounded by people you want to be surrounded by and you get to have a huge party. I don’t think you can get better than that in fairness.Galway Wedding Photographer

Last year I shot Reginas wedding, and this year I was lucky enough to shoot her sister Lorraines wedding. So with a bridal party split 50% Irish and 50% New Zealand, we did what comes naturally to both, and headed to the pub !

So up we went to Macnamaras in Bunrattty Folk park and the girls decided to play a little tune. Lorraine of course was the star attraction, but the 3 bridesmaids made for a great backing group.

Have fun on your wedding day, mess around, the photos will look so much better if you are actually having a good time with your friends. And if you see a piano in a 1900’s themed bar, then use it, your photographer will love it and you will love the results.

A Kiss at Sunset

A Kiss at Sunset

Why I love this photo.

June 2016

Sunset is beautiful time for photographers its one of those special times of the day when colours start to pop, shadows become really interesting and possibilities arise for photos that just aren’t there during the day. I had the privilege to shoot Ciara and Andys wedding in Dromoland Castle recently. For those of you who don’t know it, Dromoland Castle is just outside of Ennis, it is a stunning building surrounded by beautiful ground overlooking its own lake.

I had a chat with Ciara and Andy during the day saying that we might get lucky with a sunset if they wanted to venture out in the gap between the dinner and the band setting up. A quick stroll outside and all we needed was an umbrella, a flash and the beautiful sky to the west. It took about a minute to get this photo, and in my own very humble opinion it was a minute well spent. It also gave the guys a few minutes away, just for some peace and quiet.

Galway Wedding PhotographerI love how Ciara and Andy pop out from this photo, the background sky with its beautiful warm tones, the reflection on the lake and even the grass on the edge of the lake forming a leading line up to Ciara and Andy. To have an opportunity to create an image like this for such an amazing couple is just fantastic. Hope you enjoy it too.

Don’t forget, if you have any comments, please don’t be shy.

March 2016

I actually remember seeing Marie and Bernard at a wedding I shot last year in Athenry. They looked like the cool fun couple both with a quick answer for everything and constant smiles on their faces. So when we met up and they asked me to shoot their wedding, I was only delighted. Roll onto March and they were still the same cool, fun couple and they planned a pretty spectacular wedding with sunshine ! This is Marie and Bernards wedding day story.
