Ashley Park Wedding day with Steph and Dan

Ashley Park, Nenagh
April 2018

Steph & Dan had their simply wonderful wedding day in Ashley Park in April. Its just an amazing venue, and suited the guys to a tee, its beautiful, relaxed, charming and stylish, just like Steph and Dan ! With having the ceremony in Ashley Parks new boat house, it meant that they were able to spend more time with their guests. This is something that I really try to help couples with, as I tell them all the time, its your wedding day, not a photoshoot. So with plenty of food, drinking, fireworks and some serious dancing (its not often you hear the Cars for a first dance), here is Steph and Dans beautiful wedding in Ashley Park.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

I was having drinks with my friend Joanne at the Shard in London (in all our finery), when our other friend Dave arrived to meet us. Dave was stopped at the door as the doorman believed he didn’t have the ‘correct footwear’, having arrived straight from work. Rather than leave Dave out in the cold, we decided to go to an alternative bar. Joanne suggested a nearby little pub where her brother was having drinks with some of his work colleagues. In we walked, and there Dan sat up at the bar (he was one of the colleagues). Dan had a boot cast on his leg, and his crutches leaning against the bar, so he couldn’t run from me even if he’d wanted to. We bonded over my first proper game of darts (I won but he still disputes this victory), and we still thank Dave for wearing the wrong shoes that night.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

We visited Paris for the first time in April last year, and Dan proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I genuinely did not expect a proposal as I had planned the Paris trip, and we joked that Dan would only propose once he had trained our dachshund Jeff to go down on one knee.

WEDDING CEREMONY LOCATION?

The new ceremony room on the lake at Ashley Park House in Nenagh.

WEDDING RECEPTION LOCATION?

Drinks reception on the lawn, followed by dinner in the glass pavilion at Ashley Park House in Nenagh.

DID YOU HAVE A CERTAIN THEME OR STYLE FOR YOUR WEDDING?

I think we veered more toward a rustic style, but we borrowed from different ideas where we felt they suited our style or personality.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DRESS AND ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE FOR OTHER BRIDES LOOKING FOR THEIR PERFECT GOWN?

I got my wedding dress from The Attic in limerick (despite living in London, this was the first place I wanted to try, as I had seen pictures and read great reviews from other brides). My advice to other brides is – Pinterest is great for getting an idea of what style you want before physically going in to a shop. I had some ideas in mind, and I was shown how certain styles of dresses could be tailored to match those ideas.

WHO DID YOUR HAIR AND MAKE-UP WHAT LED YOU TO THE STYLE YOU CHOSE?

I am lucky to have a stylist in the family (Kristina Byrnes), who has worked on modelling and bridal photoshoots, and has a lot of experience in wedding hair styling. My makeup was done by Emma Sheehan, following a recommendation. i’m quite fair and decided from the offset to embrace this rather than attempting to tackle sunbeds or spray tans. Emma did a great job of perfecting a natural look that lasted into the late hours of the night.

FLOWERS/BOUQUETS SUPPLIER?

My flowers were from Ring o Roses in Limerick. I knew from the start that I wanted sunflowers, but was told by many that this could not be done in April as they would not be in season. Ring o Roses got me sunflowers!

WEDDING CAKE SUPPLIER?

Cake was made by Rosie from Fat Fairy Cake Art in Tipperary. I cannot recommend her enough. This is a relatively new, small business, but Rosie is incredibly friendly and professional and delivered on everything we asked and more.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE PHOTOGRAPHY PART OF THE DAY?

The photography was natural, and really captured the feelings on the day. Looking through our wedding photos I can see there is so much laughter. And happy tears!

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE PAUL DUANE PHOTOGRAPHY FOR YOUR DAY?

A recommendation from a good friend of mine, who must have the record for most wedding attended, and therefore, who I consider to be an expert on all things wedding related. I believe her words when I asked for advice on photographers, were “if I was getting married tomorrow and could pick my dream photographer, it would be him”. That was good enough for me!

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THE DAY?

The ceremony – we planned every detail of this and it was very personal to us. I believe we were one of the first ceremonies to be held in the ceremony room on the lake at Ashley Park house also, and we had the added benefit of beautiful sunshine.

HONEYMOON DESTINATION?

We spent three weeks travelling around South America, visiting Peru, Chile and Argentina. We packed a lot in as neither of us had been to South America before. In hindsight, I wish I’d learned more Spanish beforehand!

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD SHARE WITH BRIDES/GROOMS TO BE?

Before the wedding – Plan! Plan! Plan! Don’t leave anything last minute. Orlaith at The Attic (where I got my dress) said aim to get everything sorted a week before the wedding date, as you will need to catch up on as much sleep as possible the week of the wedding – this was solid advice. Our family did comment during the week of the wedding that we did not seem stressed – this was because we were organised.

On the day of the wedding – delegate! When you invest so much time trying to plan the perfect day, it can be difficult to switch off and just enjoy it. My bridesmaids were fantastic on the day of the wedding at making sure I did not have to worry about anything.

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REDO THE WHOLE THING AGAIN, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?

I don’t think so. I think we stayed true to who we are as a couple throughout the planning of the wedding, and kept everything from music choices to menu options very personal.

ANY OTHER SUPPLIERS YOU WANT TO MENTION:

Our band The Kickbacks. Their set list was so different from other wedding bands we looked at – hence why we booked them. They really delivered on the night. Also want to mention how great the service was at Ashley Park on the day of the wedding, and the following morning. Staff there are very friendly and helpful.

Laura and Michelle – Ballyseede Castle

Laura and Michelle

Ballyseede Castle, Tralee

Michelle and Laura got married last spring at the gorgeous Ballyseede Castle, which is a stunning Castle in Tralee, Co Kerry. They had their ceremony at the same venue as the reception, which was great, because having everything in one venue meant more time for drinks. They chose Ballyseede because it has so many options and they fell in love with it. I love shooting weddings at Ballyseede because the surroundings are just incredible, and the photo ops are endless. The venue is just oozes character from the moment you walk in through those vibrant red doors.

The wedding itself was a humanist ceremony in a beautiful room in the Castle. During the ceremony they read their own vows. It was so emotional.

The reception was at the same venue and they had a cocktail drinks reception in the afternoon, and a photobooth in the evening.

They decorated the venue with so much colour and they chose this, because it fitted with the time of year. For dinner they had proper wedding grub, which was loved by all the guests.

The first dance was a romantic slow dance, and they finished off the evening with Jagerbombs all round.

The most memorable part of the day was Michelle and Lauras first look, it was so romantic and personal. Michelle was a little nervous waiting for Laura at the bottom of the stairs, and Laura was so excited coming down the steps to see Michelle. They also had a handfasting during the ceremony – which was really beautiful!

Michelle wore a stunning long sleeved dress and Laura wore a beautiful sleeveless, bejewled backless dress and they both looked incredible. Michelle’s shoes were personalised by Le Soulier and Laura’s shoes were rainbow styled Vans.

They got in touch with me when they were planning their wedding and their enquiry really intrigued me. They said they wanted a relaxed photographer, and I really liked that they just wanted to party.

Laura and Michelle’s wedding was so much fun and had such a chilled vibe. Here’s their epic wedding!

Sinead and Barry at The Radisson Blu in Athlone

Sinead & Barry – May 2017

Radisson Blu Hotel – Athlone

We all love a good love story, words and giggles by Sinead and Barry, photos by me.

Sun showers, rain, fast cars and boats, a beautiful wedding in Galway and onto the Radisson Blu in Athlone for an amazing Party.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE TWO OF YOU, HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET?

Barry and I met on the 11th of January 2010, I was in college in Athlone and Barry was in Athlone for his last phase of FAS. We dated for the few months he was in Athlone but neither of us wanted anything serious so we remained friends for a while, exchanging regular calls and finally became ‘official’ on June 15th 2011.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?

We got engaged on the 19th of April 2015. We got up on a lazy Sunday and decided to go for a walk around the woods in Monivea with the dog. We were casually chatting about everything and anything until we got to a castle in the middle of the woods known as the mausoleum, Barry strangely asked me to walk up the steps towards the door when I turned around he was down on one knee. I had always said I would love to get engaged somewhere that meant something to us and that I could revisit or bring our children in years to come so that was the perfect place in my eyes plus it shows he listens . However I also told him to make sure it was a day when I was dressed up or looked nice instead I was walking the dog but I wouldn’t change any of it for the world !

WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THERE?

Our wedding ceremony was in my church in Ryehill, I was christened there made my communion there etc and couldn’t have imagined getting married anywhere else.

WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THERE?

Our wedding reception was in the Radisson hotel in Athlone. We decided to go with that venue as it was a mutual ground for both our families, i.e. between Roscommon and Galway, not only that but from the minute we met with them we were looked after, they genuinely couldn’t have done any more for us. They were so friendly and accommodating to all our needs and wants and for any couple going forward we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them

DID YOU HAVE A CERTAIN THEME OR STYLE FOR YOUR WEDDING?

We didn’t have any theme in mind just simplicity. I didn’t want any fuss or extra expense. We just wanted simplicity and elegance and in my eyes that’s what we achieved.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DRESS AND ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE FOR OTHER BRIDES LOOKING FOR THEIR PERFECT GOWN?

My wedding dress was very simple, very plain with a bit of detail to the back and a slight trail. I did add a belt to add a little bit of sparkle as I felt it needed a little something. My advice to any bride out there trying to find their dream dress, try everything at least then you will know what you do or don’t like, don’t try anything above your budget as you can get disheartened or pressured into paying more than you wanted and more importantly find a dress that’s you, that you will be comfortable in for the day. It’s your wedding day you want to be comfortable enough to eat the meal you’re paying for and dance the night away with your family and friends not just sit looking pretty in this ‘dress’.

WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR WEDDING SHOES AND DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES LOOKING FOR THEIR BRIDAL SHOES?

I wasn’t your typical bride, I didn’t really get caught up in the craziness of travelling around the country for the perfect shoes etc. I wanted blue shoes as my something blue and ended up getting them in New Look in Galway.

WHO DID YOUR HAIR AND MAKE-UP WHAT LED YOU TO THE STYLE YOU CHOSE?

My make up was done by a girl called Aisling K in Galway and Melissa Moran from Claremorris did my hair. Our theme was simplicity so again I had a very simple look for both hair and make up.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FLOWERS/BOUQUETS & CAKE?

Both my bouquets and cake were inspired by Pinterest(a girls best friend). Both of which I absolutely loved. I went for a plain white bouquet with a few diamonds and my bridesmaids bouquets had a little splash of pink with green. Our cake was fabulous, it was a tint of green with baby pink butterflies along the side. It sounds horrible but I fell in love with it the minute I saw it!

WHAT LED YOU TO CHOOSE Paul Duane Photography FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

For our photographer we both agreed we wanted someone that we would feel comfortable with and other than the obvious posed photos we didn’t want to have our full day taken up with taking pictures and not getting any time with our guests. I also hate photos of myself so wanted more natural photos as I feel they are sometimes nicer as you see peoples true reactions. We didn’t hesitate to choose Paul Duane photography as his style was everything we were looking for. Not only that but he has the best personality, he is so calming and friendly. He made us feel so relaxed and reassured us through his little words of wisdom and I felt he really listened to what we wanted out of our day. We could renew my vows or relive our wedding day ten times over and I wouldn’t ever change our photographer. (Hopefully we will be blessed with kids some day and will be back for a photo shoot ).

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THE DAY?

One of my most memorable moments was when Barry and I pulled up to the hotel on the boat and looked up to see everyone out on the decking. Barry turned to me and said these are all our friends and family all under the one roof, there here for us. Nerves disappeared after that.

CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HONEYMOON?

We went to Vegas for our honeymoon/30th birthday celebrations for Barry. It was everything you would expect from Vegas. Neither of us are gamblers however so that aspect was wasted on us however we did all the sight seeing. One huge recommendation for anyone visiting in the future is Grand Canyon we landed for 45 mins and had a champagne picnic. It was so picturesque.. too beautiful to describe.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD SHARE WITH BRIDES/GROOMS TO BE?

Most important piece of advice we would give to anyone would be to just enjoy it. Its your day don’t try please everyone else. Don’t get caught up with the little things everything will fall into place. Its only one day so live it up and enjoy every minute of it. In my eyes if at the end of the day you are married to your best friend and love of your life then it was a success.

ANY OTHER SUPPLIERS YOU WANT TO MENTION:

We have to recommend our cake supplier Estella Collins from Enchanted Delights she was absolutely amazing, my dress alterations by Trendy Threads, my hairdresser Melissa Moran, our amazing photographer Paul Duane, our band Top of the Popz and all at Radisson Athlone. All of which made our day one we will always treasure and thanks to you we have amazing photos to remind us of these memories, we seriously cant thank you enough Paul.

Selma and Alan – Killaloe Hotel and Spa

Selma and Alan

March 16th 2017

Killaloe Hotel and Spa

When I met Selma and Alan for the first time, I knew I was going to enjoy their wedding. They had so many great little ideas to sprinkle into their day. Their venue, The Killaloe Hotel and Spa is stunning, their church in Cratloe is so quaint and beautiful and they themselves are just a lovely, fun couple. So we just needed the unpredictable March weather to play ball with us, and fast forward to their wedding day, it did indeed. In the Church, Selmas’ sister Pollyanna provided the musical backdrop and Clare from I Do Candle Lighting had the church decor looking spectacular. With a ceremony filled with giggles and a few tears of happiness we headed off to Killaloe where the sun had come out to play.

Back at the Killaloe Hotel, the guests were again treated to Pollyanna singing as they waited for Selma and Alan to arrive. Once there they were looked after so well by the hotel manager Catherine. With speeches over and the rain still holding off , we popped out for some fresh air and a few night time shots, then back inside to dance the night away.

Thank you again guys for allowing me to share your special day with you.

Safe flights on your honeymoon and hope you enjoy

Jemma and Bridget – Waterford Medieval Museum

Jemma and Bridget
The Tower Hotel Waterford

I love shooting all over the country, it is just amazing to see different people on one of the most important days of their lives. Getting to shoot Jemma and Bridgets Wedding in Waterford was guaranteed to be another great day. They had so many fantastic ideas laid out for their day, Star Wars, cool socks, camper vans, an amazing setting for the ceremony to name a few but the best part was that they just wanted to enjoy themselves.
Its not every day I get to shoot a wedding in a 600 year old wine cellar, and its not everyday that guests get to take part in such an intimate and moving ceremony, but this was the day and Jemma and Bridget said their I do’s in one of the most romantic settings, the Mayors Wine Vault in the Waterford Medieval Museum. They were joined by family and friends from all over, Dublin accents, New York accents and of course a few Waterford ones too, all cheering and applauding the happy couple. We made a quick stop across the road to the Bishops palace and then it was back to the Tower Hotel  where the party kicked off.

Thanks again guys for having me as part of your big day, it was an absolute honour.

Here are just a few photos from an amazing day in Waterford City.
