When I met up with Aileen and Cyril to chat about their wedding, it was great to see all these little ideas the guys had to make their wedding day special to them, from decorating the church in Kiltarten to having speeches in French and English. Their choice of church was beautiful , Kiltarten is a little hidden gem of a place just outside Gort, and having their reception in the Westwood, they were guaranteed to have a great night. Throw in a stop to Lough Cultra and a little bit of sun, and you have the perfect wedding day. This is their story . . .
We met at a work night out in Galway nine years ago.
Our ceremony was in Kiltartan church, we just loved the quaint size of the chapel and adored the inside of it.The ceilings are beautiful and the church felt warm and welcoming.
Our reception was in the Westwood Hotel. We went to a wedding Fair there and loved the atmosphere and the decor. Also we were at a wedding there previously and the food and service was excellent. Perfect size reception room for the size of our party.
We went for a woodland theme because we are ‘outdoorsie’ people and love being outside going for walks and strolls in the woods that kind of thing and just wanted it to reflect on our day.
Got my dress in Abheil in Adare. Didn’t think I was going to come home with one that day! I guess I would advise brides to be to try on all types of dresses (A-line, ball gown, mermaid etc) first before they choose. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted (straight up straight down lace dress) but then when I tried it on, it just didn’t suit me and I was kind of disappointed. Then my sister made me try on all the different types of wedding dresses to see what suited me and they were completely different to what I had in my head and I absolutely loved them on me and I ended up getting a ball gown dress.
I was a bit relaxed when it came to the wedding shoes I wasn’t sure what type I was looking for but eventually I found a pair I loved a week before my wedding in Debenhams but the didn’t have them in my size at the shop so I had to order them and I got them two days before my wedding day! Phew.
My wedding dress had a high neck so I didn’t need a necklace. I had a pearl bracelet that I wore that was belonging to my great aunty who was also my godmother, she gave it to my sister as a gift and I borrowed it off her as my something borrowed.
Louise Byrne from Ennis did my hair. Couldn’t recommend her more she was brilliant. I always get updo’s done for weddings and I never really love them on me so I was really hesitant when I was getting mine done. I gave her an idea of what I wanted and on the first go she nailed it, I absolutely loved it and went with that style on my big day, don’t think I spent 30mins with her in the trial, she was brilliant.
Amanda McMahon from Corofin, Co. Clare did my make up. When I went for the trial I asked her to keep it light and natural looking. She did exactly as I asked and I loved it, to be honest I had never looked or felt so good before she knew exactly the right colours to suit my skin tone and how to bring out my features. Loved it on the day and it lasted me the whole night. Thanks Amanda.
Cyril found his waist coat and jacket in manix in Ennis but couldn’t get the matching pants so he had to search online to get his trousers. Eventually found it, but it was worth it because it suited him down to the ground. It was a Gibson London vintage suit.
Okay, I kinda became a little obsessed with Pinterest when it came to wedding ideas, and I just loved the different types of bouquets they had. I knew I want something red to tie in with Christmas and also something with lots of foliage to stay with the woodland theme. Found a picture I liked on Pinterest and sent it to west clare florists where they did a great job.
Again Pinterest, saw some beautiful pictures of cakes and sent them to Carrie cakes bakery where she did a fantastic job. We had carrot cake, chocolate cake and a vanilla sponge cake. They were beautiful, everybody enjoyed them!
From the very beginning of the day it just flowed, didn’t even notice the photographer in the room, Paul just let us get on with our morning getting our hair and make up done and the pictures came out so natural and beautiful. We were worried that the photography part of the day was going to take up a lot of our day and that we wouldn’t get enough time with our guests. But we were wrong, it just seemed to flow. We got a couple of pictures taken in the church and then went to Lough Cultra castle to take the rest of the pictures, it went really quickly got all the Posey pictures taken and then some really natural ones as well when we didn’t know the camera was on us and it really captured the day perfectly. Paul was so easy going and relaxed on our day that it made our day so relaxed and enjoyable. Thank you so much.
We were looking up local photographers from the area when we came across Paul Duane photography, then we looked up the website to see some what kind of pictures he took and we loved the style it was exactly what we were looking for on our day.
My most memorable part of the day was getting ready in the morning with my whole family around me, it just felt so special.
We went to Sri Lanka for our honeymoon. We travelled around for two weeks, we wanted to see as much of the country as possible. It is a beautiful unspoilt country side that is lush and green full of fruit trees and tea plantations and amazing views. The food was amazing, and the people are so nice and friendly.
Don’t worry, it will all work out on the day:)
Don’t think we would change anything, absolutely loved our day it was perfect. Oh actually the wedding papers, if I had to redo it again I would not forget the wedding papers!!
